A premium countryside residence, this project began with a
client-provided concept and selected site in the Altai Mountains,
followed by full design development and construction planning
by KUB HOUSE.
The plot was characterized by unstable soil conditions,
significantly increasing seismic risk. Structural calculations
confirmed a Seismic Hazard Level 9.
Additionally, the concept called for a cantilevered second floor
to appear as if floating over an artificial hill.
A major design challenge was the client’s request for large
operable glazing—to the extent that they wished to sleep with
the entire wall open to nature.
Another critical requirement was maximum energy autonomy.
The site was limited to just 5 kW of grid power via an old
transmission line, with high risk of outages.

Engineering Solutions:
  • Reinforced foundation system using large-diameter bored piles

  • Load-bearing raft slab engineered to support the cantilevered terrace

  • Above-ground structure: hybrid steel–CLT construction, with all steel
elements fully concealed

  • Interior design gives the impression of a fully timber house

Energy & Autonomy:
  • Solar panel array

  • Four-pipe air-to-air heat pump system

  • Underground LPG tank (gas holder)

  • LPG backup generator

Designed for full off-grid operation, with only one LPG refill per year
